AWARDS AND GRANTS

Below is a list of the awards that local councils and individuals may apply.

Individual Awards and Grants

-ALA members may nominate themselves or others for the following awards and grants:

Administrator in Reading Award

  • Awarded to a building or district level administrator who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in promoting literacy.

  • Deadline:  March 1.  


Jo Flanigan Scholarship

  • $400 scholarship awarded to further higher education study in a literacy or reading related field.  
  • Deadline: TBA

School Based Literacy Grant Application

  • Up to $500 in grant money is available for school or classroom projects.

Local Council Awards and grants

Local Council Honoree

    • The honoree will receive a free registration to our annual conference. One name will be chosen from all local council submissions to receive $500  towards attending ILA’s conference.

    • Deadline: September 15


Local Council Literacy Grants

  • Annual grant available for local councils to be used towards a literacy related project. 
  • An evaluation is required along with copies of any receipts used towards the literacy project.  Failure to submit an evaluation will result in the council not being able to apply for future Local Council Literacy Grants.

Local Council President's Diamond Award

      • Award presented annually to Local Council Presidents who meet certain criteria and deadlines.

Membership Award

Presented to the top three local councils with the greatest percentage of increase in the ALA membership and the local council with the greatest percentage of increase in ILA memberships.

Celebrate Literacy

  • Awards are given out each year to three honorees who have made significant contributions to literacy. Local Councils should nominate an honoree in at least one of the three categories.

The Exemplary Reading Program Award recognizes outstanding reading and language arts programs at all grade levels (elementary, middle, and high school). Its purpose is to call the public's attention to outstanding programs in schools throughout Canada and the United States. Each participating state and provincial council, with an active ERPA committee chair, may choose one winning school a year.
