Arkansas Reading Association E-News     December 2015

Carol Rasco (l), CFO of Reading Is Fundamental, was presented the Sarah Nelson Womble Literacy Award at the First General Session at this year's Literacy Conference.

Throughout her life, Carol has been a devoted advocate for children, youth, and families, as a professional and as a volunteer.

This was my first ARA conference, and I would love to be able to come back and do it again. I was really impressed.

I enjoyed conversations with other educators around the state along with excellent sessions to go to that applied to real issues in our schools today.

I like that you are including writing as part of the reading process. We need more offerings that reach secondary grade levels.

The keynote luncheon with Linda Dorn was awesome! Lunch was great. Ms. Dorn was very inspiring and overall I left with a deeper appreciation of teaching literacy.

LOVED all of the sessions I attended. Very informative and learned many things to share with colleagues who were not able to attend.

Really enjoyed all the Dyslexia workshops I was able to attend. Lots of great, useful info to take back to my district.

Thanks to all those who donated or worked the Silent Auction - over $700 was

netted which will be applied to the Jo Flanigan Scholarship fund.

Congratulations Carol Roberson! Carol, a member of the Tri Lakes Reading Council, had her name drawn as the Local Council Honoree winner.   In addition to receiving free conference registration at the ARA conference, she will be given $500 toward attending the International Literacy Association Conference in Boston this July.  Amanda Gripka from the Ozark Reading Council was runner up and will attend if Carol is unable to do so.
