Approximately 70 ARA state and local council leaders met at Heritage Conference Center at Harding University July 24-25 for the annual Council Leadership Institute. Workshop sessions focused on program promotion, leadership skill training, networking, and local literacy projects.
The annual Literacy Luncheon was held on Friday. ARA award and grant winners from across the state were presented with their awards.
Arkansas author Mark Rorie addressed the group Saturday morning and discussed his books.
SARAH WOMBLE RECEIVES AWARD
The LEADER Special Interest Group of the International Literacy Association is proud to announce that Sarah Nelson Womble of Arkansas is its 2015 Distinguished Service Award recipient and was inducted as a new member into the LEADER Hall of Fame.
The 2015 Distinguished Service Award was presented to Sarah by Glenda Nugent at the LEADER Awards Reception on Friday evening, July 17, at the Renaissance St. Louis Grand Hotel at the ILA Conference in St. Louis.
Sarah has served as an ARA president, coordinator, and chaired the special events committee at our conferences in addition to working for the International Literacy Association as a professional development associate.
